Tina Jones Quartet
Tina Jones is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter based on Gabriola Island, BC. Best known as co-founder of four-piece children’s ensemble The Kerplunks, Tina has enjoyed a twenty-plus year career as a professional musician. She has participated in many recording projects as a backup singer, horn and banjo player and arranger for such talents as David Gogo and The Irish Rovers and is a founding member of the wildly successful children’s music group The Kerplunks in 2007. Singing and playing horns and banjo for this nationally acclaimed children’s ensemble has been a major highlight of Tina’s career. Shining moments for the band include three JUNO nominations for Children’s Album of the Year, four Parents’ Choice Awards, and a Canadian Folk Music Award for Children’s Album of the Year. Tina has toured across Canada playing festivals, theatres and community events.
Deeply moved to explore her original music led her to release her debut album Quickening, a collection of songs in the folk-jazz genre. Garnering rave reviews, charting on university radio (CHLY two weeks at number 1) it’s been described as “a luxurious blend of acoustic folk, rolled in soul, seasoned with jazz”.
Tina’s quartet consists of Hans Verhoeven on drums and percussion, Ken Lister on acoustic bass, Chad Geekie on Fender Rhodes and herself on banjo, trumpet and voice.
