2019 Festival Artists

Our 2019 roster included an eclectic mix of artists hailing from coastal British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest:

Tanga

Break out your maracas and salsa shoes, because we’ve got a load of Latin flavour coming your way! Tanga describe themselves as a bombastic world fusion mob mixing up tropical dance beats with East African marimba, Colombian Cumbia and Cuban Jazz. This stellar group is a fixture of the Canadian festival circuit. Bio. 

Oliver Gannon Quartet

With a swinging style and warm rich sound, Vancouver-based jazz guitarist Oliver Gannon is a masterful musician who plays in the tradition of the great Wes Montgomery. He’s joined in the intimate Rainbow Room by a burnin’ quartet featuring bassist Jodi Proznick, pianist Nick Peck and drummer Craig Scott. Don’t miss a Canadian legend still at the top of his game! Dee Daniels

Whether accompanying herself at the piano, fronting a trio, big band or symphony, Dee Daniels is a unique talent who transcends musical borders when she brings her jazz styling, infused with gospel and blues flavouring, to the stage. Bio.

Tina Jones Quartet

Multi-instrumentalist Tina Jones has enjoyed a long career spanning countless projects and genres. Lately, however, she’s been exploring her own original music. Her debut release, Quickening, has been described as “a luxurious blend of acoustic folk, rolled in soul, seasoned with jazz.” Don’t miss an eclectic performance bolstered by drummer Hans Verhoeven, bassist Ken Lister, keyboardist Chad Geekie. Fifth Street

Fifth Street is a brand new vocal quintet based in Victoria, BC. All five members met at the University of Victoria’s School of Music and formed the group out of a desire to continue growing as artists and make music together. Inspired by a capella powerhouses such as Pentatonix, The Real Group and M-Pact, Fifth Street combines the worlds of pop, jazz and R&B in perfect five-part harmony. Bio.

Student Ensembles

We are thrilled to have Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo) represented at the festival once again this year, in addition to high school ensembles from Brooks Secondary (Powell River), Gleneagle Secondary (Coquitlam) and Wellington Secondary (Nanaimo)! Make sure to arrive a little early to each concert and enjoy a set from one of these fantastic student opening acts!
